1 Arrive at Whakamarama from 6 p.m. Settle in prior to dinner. Enjoy rural atmosphere and views to inner harbour. The Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park has been described as a walk through a living museum of ancient and recent history. Evidence of the past can be enjoyed today. There is a range of beautiful walks encompassing bush, streams, waterfalls, interesting fauna, views and magnificent tree specimens, not to mention the beauty of the Bay of Plenty coastline. Day 1 Walk - A number of options from 3 hours and up in the unique Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park - can include native bush, waterfalls, awe inspiring 600 year old kauri, fascinating geological and historical features. Maybe cool off with a refreshing river dip. Day 2 Walk - Coastal Coromandel Scenic Reserve Walk - forest remnants, falls, stunning coastal views – a most spectacular day. We have included a picturesque coastal walk in the itinerary, which skirts headlands and coastal cliffs – passing through small streams and gullies containing Puriri and Nikau Palms. There are plenty of spots to stop and eat under the over-hanging Pohutakawa. And a lovely beach for a swim at the end of the walk. (4 to 5 hours) |
