GREAT
ESCAPE WALKS
About Us

It
was out of a desire to make a life-style change and to complete
university study that the plan to co-host a walking venture developed.
I have been in education for a long, long time specialising in special
education. I have loved my field of work, but decided it was time for a
change, to do something different! Bevan and I had children who had left
home and were almost all past expensive tertiary stage.
We already had
the infrastructure for running walking trips; we have always loved the
outdoors, in particular sailing and latterly walking in our gorgeous
Western Bay of Plenty. ‘Let’s just do it’ we thought! The idea of
learning more about and actively promoting the special features of our
area appealed. At the same time we could meet and host people who likely
have similar interests in exploring the outdoors in more comfort than is
often the case.
Making a transition from being employed to being
self-employed has the promise of a worthwhile challenge! And hey, it
could be great fun!

For
me its been the idea of creating something with Aly which involves
keeping healthy and active, meeting people from within New Zealand and
from abroad, getting to know more intimately the variety of landscapes,
flora and fauna in our corner of the Bay of Plenty and making our own
unique contribution to an already established tourism venture idea.
Great
Escape Walks promises to dove-tail well with our music publishing
interest. Music has been a life-long interest. Everything from
sing-a-longs around the campfire to teaching and performing. May be
there is a place for a good old fashioned sing-a-long in the Great
Escape Walks context!
